Why do there appear to be empty lanes in some events? Why do you not fill all of the lanes?
Because of withdrawals there will always be empty lanes. We calculate how many heats we want and take slightly more swimmers to allow for withdrawals. If we allocated all of the lanes, we would actually accept fewer swimmers.
Do you take reserves in case swimmers withdraw?
We do not take reserves because we rely on some withdrawals to get down to the required number of heats. Also, handling reserves on the day of the meet introduces a significant additional amount of stress during the short period when swimmers are being arranmged into heats. That in turn leads to errors.
What happens if there are weather problems (or any other issues that might affect the competition)?
This is a real risk for an event herld in January. We will take any decision to change the structure and timing of the competition as early as possible, but conditions do change rapidly. We will try to communicvate by e-mail to everyone who has submitted entries. The primary was in which we will keep you informed is via this web site. Look for the orange box at the top of the page.
Can late entries be accepted?
The competition is over-subscribed and more than 700 entries submitted by the closing date have been rejected. That means that late entries cannot be considered.
Can we have poolside passes with more than one name?
No. More stringent child protection and safeguarding rules mean that we are now only able to issue passes with a single name, and that may only be used by the person named on the pass.
Provisional Base and Automatic Qualifying Times are now available.
The number of swimmers accepted for each event will as last year be based on a target number depending on age and distance of swim.
We publish automatic QTs so that better swimmers have a guarantee of acceptance and can make travel and accomodation arrangements. Approx 55% of all entries achieve the automatic time.
We publish base times to allow us to manage the timing of the competition and handle the natural variation in standard from year to year.
The target number of accepted swimmers will be:
Event | Age 10/11 | Age 12, 13, 14 | Age 15, 16 | Age 17/Over |
---|---|---|---|---|
All 50m | 14 | 20 | 15 | 20 |
All 100m (except fly) | 14 | 20 | 15 | 20 |
100m fly | 10 | 15 | 15 | 20 |
All 200m (except fly) | 12 | 18 | 14 | 18 |
200m fly | 10 | 14 | 8 | 12 |
All 400m | 10 | 15 | 10 | 12 |
800m/1500m | No event | 8 | 8 | 8 |
All submitted times must be set in meets licensed at level 1, 2, 3 or 4 on or after 1st March 2019. Split times cannot be accepted.
