Validation of Entry Times

For the first time, we are in the position this year to validate ALL submitted entry times against rankings.

Entries containing invalid times will be rejected and the entry fee forfeited.

A list of apparently invalid entry times will be published as soon as possible after entries have closed. You will have a period of 24 hours to supply corrections or explanations.

After this period, correction of an invalid time will constitute a late entry and as such will incur an additional fee and is subject to space available.

The following are common reasons for failure to match a time against rankings.

  1. Swimmer’s registration number incorrect
  2. Club name incorrect. If a swimmer is registered with more than one club, any of those club names is valid.
  3. Submitted time not exactly the same as appears in rankings, so do not drop the second decimal point and do not attempt to convert times.
  4. Hosting club has failed to submit results to rankings.
  5. Time not set in qualifying period.
  6. Time not set in a level 1, 2 or 3 meet.

We will make allowance for times from competitions immediately before the closing date, if times have not been published in rankings.

Managing Poolside Overcrowding

We accept as many swimmers as possible for our championships. As a result we need to manage crowding on poolside as effectively as possible. If we fail to do this, it is likely that pool operators will impose limits on the number of people on the pool deck which will mean we cannpt accomodate as many swimmers.

Please not the following additions to the competition conditions:

  • Access to poolside is restricted to swimmers competing in the session, coaches and team managers in possession of poolside passes, accredited officials and volunteers.

  • To comply with conditions of hire of the pools used for the competition, swimmers are not allowed to carry a bag larger than a small draw string bag onto poolside. This rule will be strictly enforced.

Base and Automatic Qualifying Times

Qualifying times are based on an analysis of last years entries (not swims at the competition).

The auto time is set at the 70% mark, and the base time at 110%. (Example: If the target is 36 swimmers, the auto time is set at the time of the 25th fastest entry last year and the base time at the time of the 40th fastest entry last year).

At the recommendation of the coaches panel, the team events have been removed from the programme. This allows a larger number of swimmers to be accepted for 400m/800m/1500m individual events.

Some adjustments have been made to the auto times to ensure that times are progressive. As in previous years, there will be a condition that states that no swimmer will be accepted on a time slower than that of a younger swimmer who was rejected.

There are a some significant differences to last years times. For example, there were 84 entries for the age 14 100m backstroke last year .. the QTs were obviously not right.

Please notify Mike Lambert if you believe that any of these times are incorrect. Only long course times have currently been published. Short course times will be added once any anomalies in the published times have been resolved.
